After reports recently of a brand new start for Kelly Pavlik after battling alcoholism, he is once again in trouble as he continues to battle the disease. Pavlik was arrested this morning at his home in Canfield, Ohio and booked on charges of driving under the influence, failing to stop after an accident, and failing to maintain control of his vehicle. He was released on bond around 2:00 am.
There has been a bitter split between Pavlik and his long time trainer Jack Loew. It has reported that Pavlik will relocate to California and work with Trainer Of The Year Candidate, Robert Garcia.
Jack Loew has been criticized on more than one occasion and blamed for the former Middleweight Champion's short comings in the ring. Loew went public this week and said that he could no longer defend Pavlik's actions. He said that now that he is no longer part of the team he doesn't have to cover anything up anymore. Loew said that Pavlik's out of the ring antics and alcohol problems are the reasons why he hasn't performed up to his full potential in the ring.
A full description of the incident has not been released at this time. One would have to speculate given the information thus far that Pavlik was probably drunk, hit something, and didn't bother to stop, hence getting arrested at his house.
I can't help but think to myself somewhere Jack Loew is saying I told you so.
