MANILA, Philippines -- The International Boxing Federation (IBF) will not order an immediate rematch of the junior welterweight bout between Lamont Peterson and Amir Khan, according to RingTV.
Peterson edged Khan via split decision to become the new IBF champion.
He also won Khan's World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight championship.
Two judges scored the bout for Peterson, 113-112, while another had it for Khan, 115-110.
IBF Championships Chairman Lindsay Tucker said the organization has reviewed the scorecards as well as a tape of the fight.
"We found no discrepancies that would affect the outcome or the result of the fight," Tucker said.
The result of the fight was considered controversial after referee Joe Cooper deducted Khan two points -- one in the seventh and again in the twelfth -- for pushing and shoving.
The two-point deductions proved vital as Khan would have won the bout had he not been penalized.
"We decided not to order an immediate rematch on the basis of the fact that in the rules, if the referee feels that it's a foul, then that's his call to take a point," Tucker said.
"He did warn Khan several times before he actually took the first point."
Golden Boy Promotions chief executive officer Richard Schaefer said he was not surprised by the decision.
"It's the IBF," he said.
Peterson, for his part, thanked the IBF for their decision.
"I look forward to doing everything in my power inside and outside of the ring to represent the IBF and WBA as the new champion," Peterson said.
